The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
Mills Community House and the Benzie County Players Saturday November 29 at 6:00 Sunday November 30 at 2:00 Lewis's best selling 1950 novel of the same name has been adapted for stage multiple times since its publication. Set in war-torn London, the play opens with four young children who are sent out of the city to live with a distant relative. While playing they find a passageway in a wardrobe and enter the world of Narnia, where an evil witch has caused it to always be winter but never Christmas. With the help of new friends, they work to fulfill a prophecy, break a curse and restore peace. This version, dramatized by Joseph Robinette, stays true to the original and audience members familiar with the story will certainly recognize many of the lines and themes. Performances will be free and open to the public but a suggested $15 donation is appreciated to help cover costs incurred. This production is part of the Holiday Homecoming weekend, which includes the Habitat for Humanity Festival of Trees at the Benzie Area Historical Society, and the Academy Park Tree Lighting ceremony at 8 p.m. on November 29 (directly following the performance). Program books with information on all the Holiday Homecoming events will be available at Benzonia small businesses on Friday. |
