The tax deduction is for gifts of cash to charity. Joint filers who don’t itemize deductions on their tax returns may be able to take an above-the-line deduction for up to $600 in cash contributions to charity starting in 2021. That’s up from $300. The amount for individuals is $300. It’s basically an extension and enhancement of the new one-year tax break Congress put in for 2020 under the pandemic relief CARES Act. Gifts to donor-advised funds and private foundations do not count. Donations must be to a qualifying organization.

Generous Donors and Community Interest Maintains the Mills
Through the Years—and Going Forward The support of donors made the availability of all three levels of Mills Community House a reality. Endowment and operating funds have been in place for a number of years and made it possible to add elevators and the meeting space with a full kitchen in the lower level. The establishment of the Mills Renovation Fund in 2005 brought in several leadership gifts for future building improvements.
In 2014, a new stair tower providing improved accessibility and safety, along with a spacious parking lot, were added. Areas of the library were also renovated. While rental fees support operating expenses, future renovations to improve safety, functionality, and energy efficiency will only be possible with additional donations. Whether you are a year-around or seasonal resident, or a visitor who vacations in our area, please consider making a donation. Your gift will support "The Mills" as the primary community center for cultural activities, educational programs, and gatherings in Benzie County. Please use the printable form or the Donation button (PayPal secure link) shown above. The Mills Community House Association is a 501(c) 3 organization and donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
